Corriher was born in 1922 in rural North Carolina. He grew up in a segregated society, where African Americans were denied basic rights and opportunities. Despite the challenges he faced, Corriher was determined to make a difference.
In 1942, Corriher joined the Army and served in World War II. After the war, he returned to North Carolina and became involved in the civil rights movement. He joined the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and worked to desegregate schools, restaurants, and other public places.
Corriher's activism came at a great personal cost. He was arrested and jailed multiple times. He was also threatened and harassed by white supremacists. But he never gave up on his fight for justice.
In 1961, Corriher was elected to the North Carolina House of Representatives. He was the first African American to serve in the state legislature since Reconstruction.
As a legislator, Corriher worked to pass laws that would improve the lives of all North Carolinians. He worked tirelessly to promote education, healthcare, and economic opportunity for all.
Corriher retired from the legislature in 1977. But he continued to work for civil rights and social justice until his death in 2010.
