The Daily Double: Two Horse Racing Stories
The Daily Double is a collection of two horse racing stories by award-winning author, William Faulkner. The stories are "The Brooch" and "Delta Autumn." Both stories are set in the fictional town of Jefferson, Mississippi, and they both explore the themes of love, loss, and redemption.
In "The Brooch," a young man named Bayard Sartoris falls in love with a woman named Charlotte Rittenmeyer. Charlotte is from a wealthy family, and Bayard is from a poor family. Their love is forbidden, but they are determined to be together. However, their relationship is doomed from the start. Charlotte's family disapproves of Bayard, and Bayard is too proud to accept their help. As a result, the couple is forced to live in poverty and obscurity.

In "Delta Autumn," an old man named Isaac McCaslin reflects on his life. Isaac is a wealthy plantation owner, but he is also a haunted man. He is haunted by the memories of his father's death, and he is haunted by the guilt of his own sins. Isaac's life is a tragedy, but it is also a story of redemption. In the end, Isaac finds peace and forgiveness.
The Daily Double is a powerful and moving collection of stories. Faulkner's writing is lyrical and evocative, and his characters are unforgettable. The stories explore the human condition with depth and insight, and they offer a profound meditation on the nature of love, loss, and redemption.
