The Bosnian War was one of the most brutal conflicts in Europe since World War II. It began in 1992 when Bosnia and Herzegovina declared independence from Yugoslavia. The Serbian-led Yugoslav People's Army (JNA) responded by launching a campaign of ethnic cleansing against the Bosniak (Muslim) population.
