Harry Blackmun was one of the most influential justices in Supreme Court history. He served on the Court for 24 years, from 1970 to 1994, and wrote some of the most important opinions in the Court's history, including the majority opinion in the landmark case Roe v. Wade.

Blackmun was born in Nashville, Tennessee, in 1908. He graduated from Harvard Law School in 1932 and went on to practice law in Minneapolis. He was appointed to the Supreme Court by President Richard Nixon in 1970.

Blackmun was a moderate conservative who often voted with the more liberal justices on the Court. He was a strong supporter of civil rights and women's rights. He also wrote the majority opinion in the case Miranda v. Arizona, which established the right to an attorney during police interrogations.

Blackmun was a complex and controversial figure. He was a devout Catholic who opposed abortion, but he also wrote the majority opinion in Roe v. Wade, which legalized abortion nationwide.

Blackmun retired from the Supreme Court in 1994. He died in 1999 at the age of 90.
